What does the Parathyroid Hormone do?

The Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) is responsible for regulating serum calcium concentration in the body. It does this by telling the digestive system to absorb more calcium when we are low, or, if we have an oversupply, instruct the kidneys to release more calcium via urine.

PTH test results can highlight an irregularity with serum calcium levels which indicates a problem exists with the thyroid. Abnormal serum calcium level can result from any one of a number of causes including poor diet and vitamin d deficiency.
